John Muir offers an exciting and unique middle school experience, which includes quality academic curriculum with an emphasis on integrated technology and a multitude of activities that engage the entire community. John Muir enjoys a positive school culture where the focus is the “whole child”. Sixth grade students learn in a language arts/social studies core program. Those who have met reading requirements take an elective, which includes a choice of computers, digital music, art, Spanish, and leadership. All sixth graders are assessed at the beginning of the school year in math for placement in a pre-algebra class. Seventh graders take the language arts and social studies core with electives in computers, drafting, art, drama, dance, digital music, and Spanish. Eighth graders enjoy junior engineering, algebra, geometry, college outreach, community building, leadership, and social growth in preparation for high school.
After-school clubs are available for all students in art, music, computers, hiking, and drama. Every student participates in our College and Career program. We host a Career Day in May to expose all students to an array of professions and careers. PTSA and ASB support our college going culture by sponsoring our field trips.
