Reed School was named a California Distinguished school in 2002. The curriculum is designed to provide all children with comprehensive instruction in all academic areas, while focusing on the basics in reading and math. District and State Content Standards are emphasized, along with District Lifelong Learning Standards. The program is then enriched by integrating written and oral language instruction throughout the curriculum to further develop reading, speaking, spelling, and writing skills. A caring and experienced staff challenges students with academic instruction and activities in all areas of the curriculum. In the computer lab, students in all grades receive instruction in critical thinking, problem solving, and mathematics. Technology is emphasized in student research projects in the areas of language arts, science, and social science. Students also receive instruction in music, art, performing arts, and physical education.
