Our Story
Since opening its door in 1921, Sierra High School has been a beacon to students and their families living in the surrounding foothill communities, including three Native American Rancherias, Prather, Auberry and Tollhouse. Stretching over 2,100 square miles, Sierra’s students come from the valley floor to elevations above 7,000 feet. Most students travel by bus from the far reaches of the district’s edge. Residents work and play within the district’s boundaries, taking advantage of the numerous outdoor recreation activities like boating, skiing, fishing, and hiking. Residents also work in this area on ranches or as employees of Southern California Edison, PG and E, United States Forest Service, Cal Fire, Ponderosa Telephone, the school district, and the many other stores and conveniences that support the community.
Sierra High is one of three schools, and the only high school in the Sierra Unified School District serving 429 students. We are a 4-year comprehensive high school that offers a rigorous curriculum of general, honors-level and advanced placement courses, Career Technology Education and Regional Occupational Program classes, UC/CSU A-G aligned Visual and Performing Arts classes and many extra-curricular activities can be found within our arts, agriculture and athletic departments. Full access to these opportunities is available to all students at Sierra High School. Our special education program provides leveled placement of students for access to core curriculum. These levels include: consult, RSP, Core Replacement and Special Day Class.
Sierra is dedicated to student growth in all areas and follows the mission of Sierra Unified to inspire, engage, challenge and support all students to reach their highest level of learning and personal development. Sierra High School strives to graduate responsible, self-disciplined, knowledgeable citizens into society with a strong academic foundation to build contributing citizens. This is achieved through the hard work and diligence of students, parents, staff members and our close-knit active community.
